The Trips
Capt. Scott offers guided fly fishing trips for saltwater sight casting to redfish, spotted sea trout, jack crevalle, and tarpon in Port O'Connor; and rainbow trout fishing on the Guadalupe River below Canyon Dam , as well as fly fishing schools, casting clinics, private lessons, and public speaking.
Saltwater
June through September:
Capt. Scott's Saltwater trips are based out of Port O'Connor, Texas.

Most Texas saltwater fly fishing guide services list a whole plethora of things they do; bait fishing, lure fishing, jetty fishing, night fishing, duck hunting, dolphin watching, eco tours, bird watching, lawn mowing, auto detailing, boat waxing......and fly fishing. Capt. Scott specializes in sight casting with fly and light tackle, and that's it!
Capt. Scott is a fly fishing guide, not a paid fishing partner, he works, you fish.
Scott was the first full time fly fishing (only) guide in Port O'Connor and he only guides in the summer when the weather is stable. Some guides tout "year 'round" fly fishing, but there is no reason fish salt in the winter due to cold weather, lot's of wind (40 mph+), and very , very poor sunlight, don't get ripped off !!!
Your flats and backwater excursion will primarily target the red drum, or "redfish", as commonly known. As well as "reds", we also may encounter spotted sea trout, jack crevelle, tarpon, skipjack, black tip shark, black drum, sheepshead, and snook.
ANY species ,or combination of you want can be targeted for your trip, Scott's clients book "tarpon only" trips, "jack only" trips......you name it, he'll do it...as good as it can be done. And if the conditions warrant offshore , you'll have a chance at Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, jackfish, bull reds, little tunny, and of course....tarpon.
Or....if you're up to it, go for the coveted "Graham Slam". This consists of a tarpon, jack, and redfish. To date only two anglers (besides Capt. Scott) have achieved this feat! A lot have come close, though! WILL YOU BE NEXT?
You will be fishing in typically less than a foot of water , and sight casting as Scott silently poles and directs you to specific targets (fish). You will be fishing out of a Maverick Mirage HPX.
This trip is not recommended for first time fly fishers, but if you are proficient with a spinning or bait casting rod and would like to do some light tackle sight casting, no problem. Light tackle is more than welcome. Capt. Scott caters to light tackle anglers as well.
All saltwater trips are catch and release only, and include lunch, drinks, and gear if needed.
Capt. Scott won't charge you $$$ to take pictures of your fish either.
All high res digital photos and/ or video is free.
Adult beverages welcome in moderation.

What to Bring for redfish
You will need a 7 to 9 weight fly rod loaded with a matching floating weight forward fly line, and a reel with at least 100 yards of 20# backing, 7-9ft tapered saltwater leader, wading shoes, polarized sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, appropriate clothing for the current weather, valid Texas fishing license with a saltwater stamp, and don't forget your camera!! He'll have the rest!
Rainbow Trout, December through May:
At this time, Scott is not
running trout trips, but may again in the future.
The Canyon Lake Tailrace of the Guadalupe River is the southern most trout fishery in North America. Located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country - less than an hour's drive from either San Antonio or Austin. The Guadalupe River meanders through pasturelands, rolling hills, 1000 foot limestone bluffs, and towering cypress trees draped with Spanish moss.
With the current all tackle state record rainbow weighing 8.24 lbs., and brown weighing 7.12 lbs. (both caught in the Guadalupe), the potential for catching a trophy size trout is very high. This fifteen mile tailrace fishery boasts a 9.6 mile trophy trout section which limits anglers to 1 trout over 18" per day on fly or artificial, only. This trip is a combination float/wade. This is a great trip for the beginner as well as the seasoned angler. You'll be floating in a HYDE drift boat. All trips are customized to your needs. Due to the summer crowds trout trips generally run from December through May.
Scott was the first full time fly fishing guide on the Guadalupe River below Canyon Dam. Scott holds the fly rod state record rainbow: HERE
